Will you drive safer this winter?

While everyone in the southern half of Australia is bracing for a wet winter, the top half is enjoying their dry season.

That could mean there is very different ways to have your car ready for winter driving; however the fundamentals of safe winter motoring stay unchanged. So what do you do to make sure your car is ready for safe winter motoring?

Our Vehicle Safety Inspection Report is free with every service at The Engine Bay in Salisbury Plain. Our qualified mechanics will visually check over the important components of your vehicle and provide you with a written report on the condition of your vehicle. We can then help you understand any concerns which may need to be attended so that you can drive safe this winter with The Engine Bay and Repco Authorised Service.

Clear Vision

Don't you hate that moment when you switch on the wipers during that first rainstorm and suddenly remember you haven't checked them in months! Your wipers are constantly exposed to the hot Australian sun all year round and wear out. A good quality wiper blade like Trico is essential to help you see your way clear regardless of the weather. The Engine Bay can recommend a wiper blade or assembly that is right for your car.

Don't let your fluids dry up

Fluids and other workings in your car can be effected by cold weather; such as coolants, oils and items such as glow plugs in diesel vehicles. It's essential to get your vehicle regularly serviced by a qualified mechanic who knows the correct products and parts for your particular vehicle make and model. We use high quality NGK glow plugs and Penrite oils and fluids that are designed for Australian conditions.

Driving to your winter conditions

Conditions change - and your driving style should too. In wet weather or poor visibility, slow down and leave a larger than normal stopping distance between yourself and the vehicle in front. Drive on the safe side and book in today for a service or a 65 Point Vehicle Inspection Report.

Could you stop in time?

There are some tell-tale signs that your brakes need to be checked, like vibrating, spongy or slow responding brake pedal, strange sounds or difficult handling when applying pressure to your brakes. If you notice any of these you should get it checked out by a specialist. Brake inspections form part of our 65 Point Vehicle Inspection Report, so if you have concerns call us today and book in.

Do your tyres grip?

It's dangerous to drive on worn tyres, or tyres with incorrect inflation. Now is the time to take a good look at your tyres. If you notice spots which are worn unevenly, this could indicate that your shock absorbers or some other vital part of your steering and suspension systems are due for service or replacement. Find out more about the components that affect your tyre wear on the links below:

Driving on tyres that are incorrectly inflated won't just cost you money on additional fuel; it can also impact your stopping ability. You can usually find manufacturers recommendations on a panel inside the driver side door.

Brakes, tyres, automotive fluids, radiators, heating and windscreen wipers can all be inspected, repaired, serviced and replaced by The Engine Bay. Call us today for advice or to book in a service.
