Read moreHere are a number of examples of light commercial truck services we have performed right here in our Salisbury Plain workshop with successful results.
A service was completed on this 2010 Ford Transit. The customer mentioned that there was a coolant leak. The leak was found at the heater hose joints on the heater tap.
Unfortunately, the couplings weren't available, so a new heater hose assembly was supplied and fitted. Being that this customer was self employed it was crucial that we have the van back on the road asap. The cooling system was bled and run up to operating temperature before being cleared of the problem and returned to the customer.
The Ranger came in with a ticking noise. Due to the experience and knowledge of our mechanics, the noise was identified as piston speed noise. The engine was dismantled, inspected and piston damage was found. The engine was reconditioned as required and a new turbo was supplied and fitted.
A customer brought in his Triton and was complaining of sudden loss of power and the DPF light was on. Fault codes were checked and a code was present for a DPF blockage. The parameters were reset and a forced burn was completed together with an oil change.
The Canter came into the workshop because it was consuming oil and blowing excessive blue smoke. The fault was found with the oil coming out of the compressor side of the turbo. A new turbo was supplied and fitted, getting another business customer back on the road. Fortunately, we didn't have the ongoing issues of having to get parts from interstate and freight issues so the Canter was back on the road within two days.
The issue with this Canter was that it was grinding gears and was hard to get into gear. Experience and knowledge, together with a test drive, led Nathan to focus on the feel of the clutch, concluding there was a possible hydraulic issue.
However, after bleeding the clutch, no hydraulic issues were found. After further inspection, the clutch master pivot was found to be heavily worn. This problem is common for trucks not driving long distances and mainly focused on city driving. As this was a business customer, a temporary repair was done to put the the vehicle back on the road until the vehicle could be returned for a complete repair. The clutch master push rod was adjusted to remove excessive 'free play' which means the clutch moves too much before engaging.
